Shortly after buying my car, I fitted it with an iPod connection device. I needed something to hold the iPod, so I decided to take advantage of the existing factory-installed phone holder that was unused. The ongoing CAM course provided a unique opportunity to try a new approach to manufacturing the product.
Podwich, an 'iPod sandwich', was designed for the fifth-generation iPod and it perfectly fits the quick lock mechanism in the phone holder. It holds the iPod securely but allows the device to be detached very easily.
The cradle was precision-machined with a 5-axis CNC milling machine out of two different kinds of plastic, after first being modeled in Creo 2.0. The combination of white and translucent blends beautifully with the colours and materials of the iPod.
